Stenhousemuir Cricket Club hosted a
P6 schools cricket tournament on Tuesday 14th June. Local primary schools Stenhousemuir, Kinnaird, Carron and St Bernadette’s came together to mark the end of the Cricket Scotland & Active
Schools 2015/16 cricket programme supported by Cricket Forth Valley and Stenhousemuir Cricket Club.
75 P6 pupils took part on 4 pitches
at The Tryst ground in a round robin tournament with Carron and Stenhousemuir facing each other in the final. The eventual winners were Carron Primary
and were presented with a trophy by Tony Phillips of Cricket Forth Valley and Rushdi Jappie Stenhousemuir Cricket Club’s overseas professional.
The participating schools were also presented with a set on Kwik Cricket equipment and T shirts to mark the occasion.
Many of the pupils enjoyed the game so much that they want to come back to join the club.
Cricket has been introduced to the local primary schools as well as to Larbert High School since September 2015 with great support from Active Schools and Larbert High School - the youngsters can
now enjoy their new skills at their local Premier Division cricket club.
Stenhousemuir Cricket are running a Cricket Summer Training Camp from the 18th to 22nd July hosted by the club's professional - RJs School of Cricket. Junior training runs on Tuesday 6pm-7:30pm
and Sunday 10am-11:30am. All budding junior cricketers are welcome!

Cricket Factory Cup Regional Finals Secondary School
On Monday the McLaren High School team played in the Cricket Factory Cup regional finals at Stirling County. With New Williamfield basking in sunshine and the Wallace Monument standing out in the background the boys were pumped and determined to defend their 2015 title and got off to a steady start against Monifieth High School winning by 20+ runs. Second game was against Morgan High School and despite a great effort from a young Morgan side the McLaren lads were just too strong and powered home with some lofty blows, bonus runs and good running between wickets led to an 80+ run victory. With just one more win required they faced their toughest & trickiest opponents of St Pauls in the final, put in to bowl first St Pauls were soon plundering runs off some sloppy fielding but the lads pulled together and with some late wickets managed to pull the score back to 145 and the chase was on. Early wickets and poor running didn't stop McLaren from keeping on the run rate but St Pauls kept the pressure on with each bowler coming on being better than the last and into the final over it went, St Pauls were up for this and smelled blood even daring to berate former Scotland Women's Captain & Coach Kari Carswell on one specific umpiring decision, McLaren kept going though and pushed the score to 149 with one ball left, with a level head Angus just blocked it out and for the 2nd year running McLaren High ran out Regional Champions and progress to the Nationals next week in Perth - can the do better than last year and win, fingers crossed they can!!
P6 Regional Tournament (Stirling)
We again were very fortunate to have another great day of sunshine and blue skies at New Williamfield the home of Stirling County Cricket Club.
Four schools contested the Regional P6 Tournament; Dunblane PS, Riverside PS, Newton Ps and St Mary's EPS.
Riverside PS won the competition in 2015 beating St Ninians PS in the final and they were hoping to repeat that effort in 2016.
Dunblane, St Marys EPS and Newton were participating in their first ever tournament and were all fantastic.
After round robin games the finalist were Dunblane PS and St Marys EPS who had managed to beat Dunblane in the round robin stage by 3 runs.
Well done to Dunblane PS who won the P6 Regional Tournament today beating St Mary's EPS in the final.

Both teams who displayed great skill playing in their first ever tournament.
Great effort from Riverside and Newton who played very well. Riverside managed to beat Newton in 3rd/4th playoff.

P4/5 Festival at Stirling County Cricket Club 27th May 2016
This morning we had another Festival on and the weather was not looking good. However St Ninians Primary School were not going to deterred and made their way to Stirling County Cricket Cup.We
used the Cricket Factory Equipment today for batting, overarm and underarm throwing plus catching. With the field being wet and a bit slippery we did not want to do any activities
which might have ended with youngsters hurting themselves.Aamir and Kevin the overseas amateurs from Stirling County Cricket Club were on hand to work with the youngsters. The pupils from St
Ninian's enjoyed the various stations and both overseas amateurs remarked on a great bunch of kids.After the break the weather really closed in and we decided to call it a day which meant they
could get back in time to see Ross Murdoch who was at the school.Thanks to teachers for bringing them down, Kevin and Amair for helping and to Stirling County for providing the venue.
P4/5 Festival at Callander Cricket Club 24th May 2016
With a reasonably sunny start to the day things were looking good for the first Primary School Festival of the Summer at the grounds of Callander Primary School. With the help of Callander Cricket Club volunteers, Active Stirling staff and Sports Leaders from McLaren High School we set up the stations and were ready just before the pupils arrived at 10am.
There was a fantastic turnout (96 pupils) from schools in the McLaren Cluster with representation from Port of Menteith, Gartmore, Kincardine-in-Menteith, Callander, Thornhill and Aberfoyle.
The children were divided into 8 groups and were allocated stations to start at batting, bowling, catching, underarm and overarm throwing. We made good use of the Cricket Factory Equipment, plus had three stations specifically for games; Diamond Cricket, Continuous Cricket and 3 Ts.
Every 12 minutes or so we got groups to move around so everyone could have a chance at each station.
After an hour we had a mini break where the coaches, volunteers and Sports Leaders could not help themselves and had a quick game.
After the break the pupils continued to move around the stations until just before 12 pm when our time was up. The pupils had a great time as the Sports Leaders and volunteers were very enthusiastic offering loads of encouragement.
A big thank you to all the schools (teachers and pupils ) who came down to Festival. Sports Leaders from Mclaren High School; Max and Angus Parsons, Cameron McLay and Jack Steadman. Also thank you to Claire, Marco, Tom from Active Stirling; Barry and Ian from Callander Cricket Club.
P4/5 Festival at St Modan's Cricket Club 26th May 2016

Great day was had by all with Wallacestone 2 winning by scoring more runs than Maddiston 2 & Wallacestone 1 although they all ended on 9 points each
P6 Tournament at Stirling County Cricket Club 2015-05-29
After a number of years absence a P6 tournament was held at host club Stirling County Cricket Club which will now become an annual event..
This was a joint event between Active Stirling and Cricket Forth Valley with four participating schools from Riverside, St Ninians, Newton and Dunblane.
Tony Phillips the Community Development Coach has been working with the P6s over the last few weeks and they were all ready for the tournament.
The weather was a bit up and down but a couple of showers were not going to put the players off and the event ended in sunshine.
Riverside and St Ninians both had two teams at the tournament with Riverside managing to maintain an unbeaten record during the afternoon and winning the tournament.
However cricket was the winner today with the players having a great time.
Tony; ‘ I was very pleased with the efforts from everyone today and with the skill levels on display from all teams. I am hoping that a number of the players will continue to play cricket at clubs in the Forth Valley and already planning for 2016’

Cricket Factory Cup Emerging Schools tournament 1st June 2015 at Stirling County Cricket Club
Cricket Forth Valley organised the Cricket Factory Cup for Emerging schools across the Forth Valley and Dundee.
This year the tournament had a record number of schools participating from the Forth Valley. Schools from the Forth Valley were Graeme High School, Larbert High School, St Modans High School and McLaren High School with Monifieth High School making the fifth team.
Again Stirling County Cricket Club played host to the event which was played in good spirit and managed to avoid the later afternoon showers.
Each school played against each other in a round robin format.
The opening games saw St Modans (126) sneak past Monifieth (122) which was a pleasing result for St Modans with none of their players having played cricket before. The other game saw McLaren (155) beating Graeme (87) with McLaren continuing in this vain to win four out of four.
After all teams had played each other McLaren remained unbeaten with Larbert, Monifieth and St Modans all recording two wins each.
By virtue of their superior runs scored during the tournament Monifieth ended up 2nd, Larbert 3rd, St Modans 4th and Graeme finished 5th.
The day was a great success with a number of excellent performances with McLaren scoring 611 runs in their 4 games.
Tony Phillips the Community Development Coach was very pleased with the efforts of all the boys and their commitment.

The Scottish Government's 'Lets Make Scotland More Active: A Strategy for Physical Activity' includes a recommendation "that local community planning partnerships are given support and enough resources to help them co-ordinate and put into practice actions to support the development of physical activity."
Nick Pink, Regional Development Manager for ICC Europe said: "Sport has the potential to change lives and we have seen how projects in Europe and beyond are enabling young people to discover new horizons through cricket. Our aim is to promote community cohesion throughout Scotland by boosting participation in the game, and in order to do this we need as much assistance as possible."

Cricket Forth Valley is very grateful to Club Sport Stirling for the funding granted to paint a cricket pitch on each of the 15 focus Primary Schools where cricket is coached in the Stirlingshire area.
This will add massive value to the coaching sessions enabling young people to play cricket in the playground at breaks and after school.
It will also help teachers to deliver cricket sessions outwith our programme.
Club Sport Stirling have also been very generous allowing Cricket Forth valley to purchase kwik cricket equipment for each of the 15 participating focus schools linked to St Modans Cricket
Club, Stirling County Cricket Club and Callander Cricket Club.
Cricket Forth Valley is a Development Group delivering cricket coaching to 25 Primary Schools across the Forth Valley working with Active Stirling, Clackmannan Council and Falkirk Community Trust .
The coaching is all year round with P4 Autumn, P5 Winter P6/7 in Spring/Summer and the coaching programme is delivered during curricular time, lunch time and after schools clubs.
Cricket Forth Valley also works closely with several clubs to ensure progression from Primary School sessions to club participation as a pathway working with clubs and identification at sessions in Primary School.
Cricket Forth Valley is also starting to work with Secondary Schools in the Forth Valley to encourage schools to develop High School teams who can play against each other in the Forth Valley .
Cricket Factory Cup
The tournament is open to all Emerging Secondary School teams and a Regional tournament will take place 2017.
The winners of the Regional tournament will then play in a National Final in Perth.
Primary Schools
There will be a number of Kwik Cricket Festivals for P4 & 5 s across the Forth Valley in 2017. These will take place at the relevant clubs in the school clusters .
There will be a Kwik Cricket Tournament for P6 focus schools in the Forth Valley for each Council area; Stirling, Clackmannan and Falkirk.
There is a National Competition to held at Perth Doo'cot Cricket Club.
